The Shieling Gallery is dedicated to celebrating, and elevating  artists who express their vision, and narratives through modern and contemporary                   exploration.  We are an artist owned gallery with a desire to advocate for up and coming voices, as well as discovering local artists who continue a journey of           visual communicating.

OUR STORY

First of all, welcome!  I am glad you are here..  I have  been producing art for 35 years in the Indianapolis, Indiana and the Brown County/ Bloomington area.   I have  practiced painting,  ceramics, and mosaics through the years and used nature and spiritual narratives as inspiration for all the mediums I have  explored.  With the closing of the gallery that represented me  for a good number of years,, Editions Ltd., , I  have struggled presenting my work in a way where people can encounter my work in a physical and intimate way.  I find it unimaginable  to experience art in any other way but getting up close and present with it. My experience with a brick and mortar gallery model has solidified my desire to get my work and the work of others back into the eyes and hearts of our world.

We raised our kids in Carmel, indiana and in 2010 we moved to Brown County to pursue a vibrant life on a farm.  It was a life choice that changed every fiber of my being with both the environment influence  and the experience,  iThe world of nature greatly informs the passion I possess.   With life calling us back into the area where  our super great kids and grandkids live, we chose to move back.  Art continues to be a large part of my life and showing my work and my love for others' art, led me down the path to this here gallery/studio at 27 E. Main St. Carmel, IN.

The name "Shieling"  has been the name of farms  owned by my family for generations, including mine.  A shieling is a hut found in high grazing pastures in Scotland and Ireland.   I am Irish and it is not lost on me that my maiden name is Shiel.
